How to Teach Basic Beginners Intensive
8/6-8/9/07

MONDAY - THURSDAY
8/6 - 8/9
8:00am - 5:30pm daily

How to Teach Beginners Course with Special Reference to Posture

How to Teach Beginners Course
with Special Reference to Posture
with Mary Paffard

8:00am - 5:30pm daily

This is the 5th time this classic, popular course has been taught in California and in Cuba by Mary.

When a student completes a teacher training course, and faces whatever student comes in their door, there is often a wide gap between what has been studied and the hands-on reality of teaching.  This course combines actual life class situations with local students, presentations on teaching methodology that encompass the key questions about posture, breath, intention, basic yoga principles and safety.

  • 8-9:30am:  Each day starts with an active advanced vinyasa practice incorporating the theme of the day.
  • 9:30 on: The main focus is explored in preparation for a live class at midday
  • 12 – 1:15/1.30pm: Live class at mid day
  • 2.30 – 5pm: Afternoon group work, teaching practice and presentations deepen the applications and opportunities to improve teaching, communicating and adjustment skills.  The afternoon will end with 30 minutes of passive practice and meditation.

This course will pay particular attention to the importance of standing on the bones and the position of the sacrum in basic poses.  Without understanding posture, and helping our students to stand, walk, sit and sleep with ease, what are we doing teaching? Suitable for trainees, new teachers and more experienced students.

This course has also been very helpful for more experienced teachers who want to review fundamental principles or find new ways to approach working with beginners.
