THE FARAWAY PROGRAM
An Indepth 675 Hour
Advanced Studies & Teacher Training Program
for Serious, Self-Motivated Practitioners
with Impossible Schedules or Who Live Faraway
At Yoga Mendocino
"We are not taking new students in 2008 and 2009 for the Faraway Program. We will resume taking new students in 2010.
At this point we re choosing to focus our teacher training attention on the more local Foundations in Yoga Program, which begins in September 2008. "
"When I was first looking into the Faraway Program, I wondered if it was possible to advance all aspects of my practice substantially without being in the presence of a teacher. Now after completing 13 months of the program, I know without reservation that this was the best program I could have chosen! The information, guidance, and support that is provided is the perfect balance of structure with spontaneity, external guidance with internal insight development, and knowledge with wisdom. My personal asana practice has deepened greatly, my philosopical perspective has expanded, my anatomical understanding has increased, and my kindness and acceptance toward myself is tangible and geniune. Also the community of friendship and support facilitated and developed between teachers and among student is one of the most beneficial and unexpected blessing of the program."

DESCRIPTION
|
This program combines the best of live class experience, personal contact with experienced & exciting teachers and a comprehensive home program.
We emphasize a deep respect for the tradition of Hatha Yoga, the principles of alignment, and the importance of a healthy relationship to the well being of the student & of the whole community. We also see Yoga as a profoundly spiritual path and all our teachers seek to unearth the inner guru in themselves and their students; we emphasize the meditative aspect of the practice in our long standing connection to the Vipassna tradition and feel this aspect is very complimentary to our work with the inner body and the willingness to be present in each moment.

I was attracted to the faraway program for many reasons, but the deciding factor was the continuity and mentorship it offers throughout the 2 year period. Mary and Maggie embody both the style and integrity that resonate with me and my practice.
When I began the program my practice had become mechanical and lackluster. Through the guidance and structure of the faraway program my practice has evolved into a way of Iife. My time on the mat has been transformed into a time of returning to who I am.

Attendance & evaluation of any 6 beginners classes*

|
This program has been more than a teacher training it has been life training.
In learning to add depth and joy to my teaching,
I have also learned how to add depth and joy to my practice
A big thank you for creating this program, I no longer feel stranded in the middle of ‘yoga nowhere’. I feel that a beacon has been lit that will shed some light if not point me in the right direction.

“Besides all the excellent training on asana, meditation, anatomy, and philosophy; two incredible gifts from this program were the community that was created and the huge amount of acceptance and understanding I developed of myself and the world around me. As a woman I have learned to listen and trust my inner voice, and this has taught me to care for myself in a way that is beyond measure.”
“Being part of this program was by far the best thing I have ever done for myself as a being and thereby for the Universe.”

ARE YOU READY?
|
Applicants need to have practised yoga for 5 years and be highly motivated to work on your own.
You will need to practice a minimum of one hour a day, (ideally 1.5 - 2 hours) and be able to study for on average, at least 2 hours a week.
We will only be accepting a small number of applicants this year because of the commitment from core faculty to monitor the study group and space we need to hold within the Summer Intensives.
You can start any year with the Summer Intensive and then the course work follows in the September of that year; the Summer Intensives need to be taken consecutively.
This year (2007) our Summer Intensive is focusing on Innovation an Tradition The Richness of Yoga and if you wish to join program let us know as soon as possible.
If you have not studied with Maggie Norton and Mary Paffard before, it may be wise to attend the Summer Intensive (or other workshops like Mary's Presence in Yoga or Chakra Voyage) first before making your final committment. We have a particular way of working and would like you to feel very comfortable with our intentions, practice and philosophy before we take on the role of mentoring you. And you may feel likewise!
If space exists and you are undecided about the program, you can register for the summer intensive and $1000 of the summer intensive fee will be credited to the Faraway payments, if during the Summer Intensive you commit to the entire program.
