MAY & JUNE MEDITATION SERIES
from 7:30 - 9 pm.
with Ajahn Amaro
coabbot of Abhayagiri Monastery
on the theme of "Working with Conflict"
This series is open to everyone and will include a period of meditation, a dharma talk and a time for questions and answers. We hope that both seasoned practitioners and beginners in meditation will attend, and the relevance of the themes will attract the attention of many outside the normal parameters of the meditation community.
Chairs are available for those not used to sitting on the floor.
May 21st What is Violence? - inside & outside."
This evening will be a (non-experiential!) investigation of the nature of violence, and destructive aggression of all kinds. We will reflect on how this energy is experienced within our own minds, and, in turn, how it manifests between us and the world, and how it comes from the world toward us. Most importantly, we will start to look at ways that that these qualities can be transformed and support spiritual practice rather than disable it.

Right View or Righteous Views?
This evening will be an opportunity to look at aggression and self-righteousness, particularly as it manifests in covert ways in spiritual practices and communities. This refers to such phenomena as going to war with our thinking mind so that we can 'Get Peaceful!' Or ever-so-politely sharing our understanding of someone else's faults with them, more because we want to straighten them out so that our own world will be more comfortable, rather than from a genuine compassion and a sincere motivation to help them.

The Way of Non Violence
This evening will be an investigation of the principle of non-violence (Ahimsa) and an opportunity to learn ways and means of developing it as a fundamental strategy in our lives. We will also look at how 'passivity' and 'pacifism' are two completely different qualities, exploring how to recognize their contrasting characteristics, and the benefits of infusing our pacifist, non-violent attitudes & practices with a vigorous & heartful energy.
This series is open to everyone and will include a period of meditation, a dharma talk and time for questions and answeres. Chairs are available. Call or email Yomo to register.
You are advised to register early. We expect a large turnout for this event, so if you have registered and cannot attend on the day, please contact Yomo.
